Introduction

Unfortunately, we live in a world that dictates image and what a person should look like in order to be accepted. There are many print ads, television commercials and magazines advertising products such as jeans and underwear with a very slim bikini clad model. Image today seems to be everything, from the catwalks in Milan to New York there appears to be absolutely no room for their obese counterparts.

Who makes up these rules and dictates what a person should or shouldn't look like, weigh or wear? How pathetic and unnerving it is to be made to feel as though you don't quite "fit in" to what the acceptable social standards may be and to have people judge you for what you look like and not who you are on the inside.

We are all equal and shouldn't have to feel inferior to those who think and believe they are acceptable and flawless, for it is up to us to decide how we feel about ourselves and to not let other people make us feel low and unacceptable, no matter what our size. Unfortunately, this isn't a perfect world, so we should arm ourselves and accept who we are and if we want to change, then we will change ourselves for our own reasons in our own time, and not someone else's.

But, how do we feel and live as other people do if something is indeed hindering us from living a so called normal life?

In my younger years I was quite heavy set and felt inferior to those around me, causing me to envy everyone in my path and soon started to wonder why I wasn't receiving the attention I craved or why I couldn't enjoy being popular to those I wished to appeal to. It would appear that my thinner counterparts received all the attention and perks while I couldn't simply due to my body image.

Unfortunately these things were due to the fact that I was obese and they were not, even though my problems were due to psychological reasons I was still unhealthy and not happy just the same.

As time progressed, I realized this wasn't what I wanted in my life, I wanted to be recognized and noticed, to be healthy, happy and secure and made a sincere effort to drop a few pounds of fat and I did manage to achieve my goal while having others ask me what my secret was or wondering if losing weight made me feel like I was on top of the world.

I have been down the road of obesity, unhappiness and inferiority and most definitely not a road I wish to travel again, but having acquired the first hand experience it is safe to say I would never have gained such happiness and contentment that I have now, the most important riches of all.

If I can define, set and reach my weight loss goals most likely you can as well. I never want another human being to go through and feel the things I've felt, to be discriminated against, pitied and alone. We have all been there at one point in time or another and the transformation has armed us with the knowledge and power to guide those who are still in that current situation.

Let's stand up and rise against obesity for in a world where the standards of society are flat stomachs and well defined, chiseled body parts we need to stamp out and destroy the killer amongst us.
